The Importance of Having Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage

All but two states now mandate vehicle insurance coverage. However, even with the state limits, it may not be enough to cover medical bills, pain and suffering and lost wages.  A recent study conducted by the Insurance Research Council found that one out of every eight car owners does not have uninsured / underinsured motorist coverage.

“Uninsured Motorist and Underinsured Motorist Insurance Coverage is crucially important Insurance Coverage for all motorists. If someone is injured as a result of the negligence of an uninsured third party, the injured victim will receive no compensation as a result of the automobile wreck unless they have uninsured motorist coverage” http://insurancelawhelp.com/uninsured-and-underinsured-motorist-insurance-coverage/

It is overwhelming to think that there are drivers that are on the road without insurance. Also, the state minimum requirements may not be enough to cover an accident. The best way to combat this problem is by adding this extra coverage to a policy. Many think they are not affordable, but it is a small amount to pay for peace of mind.

What Is Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist Coverage

In many states, uninsured motorist coverage is automatically provided with any vehicle policy. Though it is not required in all states. This coverage will protect the driver if they are involved in an accident with someone who is not insured. Some feel that it is an unnecessary expense, but  those people are uninformed. Imagine that a person gets into a car accident with an at-fault driver that only has a state minimum insurance policy. There is nobody to go after to seek monetary compensation for damages over and above the minimum coverage.

Betting Against The Odds

No one expects to get into a serious car accident. However, the physical and emotional pain that it causes is unprecedented. Being properly prepared can offset some of the pain and devastation that comes with these incidents. These additional coverages can provide a safety net that if an accident were to occur, a person has all the monetary protection they need.
